In this “My Son” poem, Solomon gives his son six admonitions or words of wisdom. Along with each one, he gives his son the rewards for following wisdom.
The first admonition is to obey his father’s teaching so that he will have long life with peace and prosperity (3:1-2).
The second is to manifest faithful love with the result that he will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man (3:3-4).
Thirdly, he is to trust only in the Lord and not his own understanding, submitting to God who will make his paths straight (3:5-6).
What about you? Are you heeding Solomon’s admonitions or words of wisdom? You will if you want to reap the rewards for following wisdom.
