Whatever God has created for good, the world seems to find a way to pervert and destroy. In Proverbs 5, Solomon addresses the issue of sex. He begins by telling his son to pay attention to his wisdom and keep his words. In essence, he tells him to listen. Then, he tells him to that he needs to leave a legacy of wisdom for the next generation. The father tells his son about a threat – in this case – the threat comes in the form of an adulterous woman. His son needs to recognize the folly of illicit sex. Yet, recognizing this is not enough, the son also needs to reject that same folly. Solomon tells his son that following wisdom means keeping away from the adulterous woman. If he fails to resist the temptation, he will suffer horrible consequences; however, if he holds to wisdom, God has something much better in store for him.
