False teachers have a lot in common. Peter answers the question: What are false teachers like? They are just like Balaam in the Old Testament who preferred wealth and popularity over faithfulness and obedience to God. They are greedy and immoral; they possess no spiritual vitality because they are destitute of life. While promising freedom, they themselves are slaves to depravity, having never experience any change in their lives. Peter concludes by saying that they will have greater condemnation because they knew the truth and deliberately turned away from it!
