Series: The Parables of Jesus
Description
What should you do when you have an urgent or unexpected need? The Lord Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that they can always take their needs to the heavenly Father. This parable is called the Friend at Midnight, and it is found in Luke 11:5-7
In this parable, we see a friend has a traveler arrive at midnight. Having nothing to set before him, he goes to a friend’s house to ask for bread. The entire parable is a question asking if this is the kind of response that the person making the request will receive. The obvious answer is: “Certainly not!”
Jesus then affirms this answer and commands his disciples to pray (ask, seek, and knock). He assures them that if they pray, God will certainly answer. In the context, Jesus also gives his disciples what we have come to know as the Lord’s Prayer and another improbably scenario that help to underscore the lesson he is teaching them.
The bottom line of the parable is that God is always available; therefore, we must take our requests to him!
