The opening verses of the Bible tell how God brought light out of the darkness. He spoke and His word commanded the light into existence! Throughout the Bible, the writers call Jesus the light. Even the prophet Isaiah says that Jesus would come to bring light to those living in darkness (Isaiah 9:2). Since, God is still in the business of taking people out of the darkness and bringing them into the light; He is actively using people to share his light with people who live in darkness, blinded by sin. This is not merely a phenomena that took place in the first century, but God is busy doing the same today.
(During this message, we showed a video of God’s word bringing light to the Moi people of Papua New Guinea. The Moi were a completely isolated group, living in darkness and fear of the spirit realm. Then, God sent missionaries to live among them, to learn their culture and language, and to bring the light of Jesus to them. A powerful video chronicles the compelling story of God bringing light to the Moi people. You can find this video at https://accesstruth.com/media/hearing-his-voice-a-short-film. Pastor showed this video during the message and spoke about it. We encourage you to listen to the first part of the the sermon, then stop the sermon and watch the video, then return and listen to the rest of the message as we did in the service.)
God not only brings people out of the darkness in far away places like Papua New Guinea, but he is doing so right now, even in New York. The Decision America Tour was just in Syracuse and many went forward to place their trust in Jesus Christ. God is actively bringing people out of the darkness.
Next week’s message will deal with how you can share your faith in Jesus Christ.
