The announcement that Jesus was going to return to the Father in heaven produced confusion and discouragement for his disciples. In order to calm their hearts, Jesus promises to send the Spirit – the Comforter. He would minister to Jesus’ followers after Jesus leaves. When he comes, the Holy Spirit would bring conviction to the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment. In addition, He would guide the disciples into all truth in the absence of Jesus. The teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit is not the imparting of facts. It is the commending of truth to the regenerated mind. In other words, it is the giving of the ability to receive and appreciate truth, making revealed truth meaningful to the believer.
