Series: Who is Jesus?
Description
After feeding over 5,000 people, Jesus had a huge crowd following him, and he presents himself as the Bread of Life. For his part, Jesus was not merely interested in crowds, he wanted people to be committed. To put it another way, Jesus didn’t want fans, he wanted followers. Throughout this passage, Jesus confronts, corrects, confuses, and even confounds the crowds with his words. What was the result? Many stopped following Jesus. In this passage, Jesus says some things that are particularly difficult. Jesus designed them that way, to trim the crowd down to those who would be committed. Yet, if one pays close attention to what Jesus says, the meaning of his “hard to understand” words becomes clear. Those who hear Jesus’ voice (pay attention to his words) and believe in him, have eternal life. Who is Jesus? He is the bread of life.
