Description
In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul gives five examples from ancient Israel to challenge the Corinthian believers and us not to set our hearts on evil things. Israel was not content with God’s provision of manna, instead, she complained to God for meat. She made a golden calf and proclaimed man-made idols to be gods. In fact, they credited their gods with the miraculous deeds that God had done for them. As if that weren’t bad enough, Israel engaged in sexual immorality, questioned God’s actions, and constantly grumbled.
Paul warned the Corinthians that no one is above falling into sin. He encouraged them by letting them know that God had promised a path to victory for every trouble or temptation they face. We must set our hearts on God by believing what He has said and by living a life of faith.
